Summer Class {CRST 3510}

The first 3rd of the summer is over!! {Sad day!} Welcome to the 2nd/ 3rd. Which for me means class is in for summer! I had one course left for my minor (Critical Studies of Race & Ethnicity); which you have might have read or not, but the minor is described more closely {here}. Well this is my 5th and final course in the discipline (for now) and because of the craziness of a nursing student senior schedule I decided to go for a more stress-free route and take it in the summer.

...As written in the syllabus...
COURSE OUTLINE
The purpose of this course is to provide students with a macro and micro-level understanding of race and ethnicity.  The course emphasis will be on race/ethnicity in the U.S., but consideration will be given to historical, cross-cultural, and international variations. This course is also is cross-listed as CRST and WOST and is required for majors and minors in Critical Studies of Race/Ethnicity. The course, and CRST program, proceeds from the following assumptions:

§   Racism is systemic and structural.
§   Understanding of present racial issues requires knowledge of their historical roots in the U.S.
§   Race is socially constructed, but the consequences of racism have real and empirical consequences.
§   White privilege exists in the U.S.
§   Racism as a system of inequality is interrelated with class, gender, and other differences.
§   Racism impacts everyone.
§   Anti-racist action is required to dismantle racism.

Well so here's to the "2nd/ 3rd" of summer, and classes twice a week for 3 hours, and learning NOT nursing for a moment....

Well, I guess since class starts tomorrow that means I should probably get some books...
